Privacy policy
The short version
Silverpost reads the messages and letters that families ask it about, and answers in plain words. To do that it has to hold what you sent and the answer it gave, and it has to send that item to Anthropic, whose Claude model does the reading, under a written contract. That material is never sold, it is never used to train artificial intelligence, and you can have all of it deleted permanently whenever you want.
A fully private mode, in which nothing you send ever leaves Silverpost’s own machines, is on our roadmap. It is not built yet, and we would rather say so here than imply otherwise.
This website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It counts visits with Plausible, a privacy first analytics service hosted in the EU that cannot identify you or follow you anywhere else. There is more detail further down.
Who we are
Silverpost is a trading name of Silverpost Technologies Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 17402654. For the purposes of UK GDPR, Silverpost Technologies Limited is the data controller for everything described on this page. It is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZC225039.
You can reach a person, and it is the same person, at hello@silverpost.co.uk. A postal address is available on request to that address, and we will send it to you.
What we collect, and why
If you join the waiting list on this website
- Your name and email address. That is the whole record. We use them to invite you to the founding families and for nothing else. We do not add you to any other list, and we do not pass them on. If you join twice, the second one is quietly ignored rather than stored again.
If you use Silverpost
- The messages and letters you send it. Texts, WhatsApp messages, forwarded emails and photographs of post, together with anything written on them. This is the only way the service can answer the question you asked.
- The answers Silverpost gave. So that the family can look back at what was decided and when.
- Your account and family details. Names, email addresses or phone numbers of the people in your family feed, so the right people are told when something dangerous arrives.
- Basic technical records. Server logs needed to keep the service running and secure, kept for 30 days and then deleted. That deletion is enforced by the server itself, not left to somebody remembering to do it.
- If you write to us without a family plan. The phone number or email address you wrote from, the name WhatsApp shows for you, and the date of your first message, so the free month and the weekly free check can be counted.
Where it is processed, and who sees it
The reading itself is done by Anthropic, using their Claude model, on servers in the United States. Anthropic acts as our processor under a written data processing agreement. That contract is what obliges them to handle it only on our instructions, to keep it secure, not to use it to train artificial intelligence models, and not to keep it beyond what is needed to return the answer.
Because that processing happens outside the United Kingdom, the transfer is covered by the safeguards UK data protection law requires for sending personal data abroad.
If your family talks to Silverpost through WhatsApp, the message reaches us through WhatsApp’s business service, which is run by Meta. Meta’s role is carrying the message, the way the post office carries a letter: it hosts the connection and delivers what you send to the Silverpost number, under WhatsApp’s business terms, and it acts as a processor for that delivery. It is not part of the reading, it is not given anything beyond the messages you choose to send, and what it carries is still read only by Anthropic, exactly as described above.
Nobody else sees what your family sends it. It is not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not passed to anyone outside that arrangement.
We use a small number of ordinary suppliers to run a business. Email sent to us is routed by Cloudflare and delivered to a mailbox hosted by Google. Card payments are taken by Square, which tells us that a payment has been made and the email address to send the welcome to. We never see your card number. None of them is given what your family sends it, only what they need to carry a message or take a payment.
How long we keep it
- Checks and answers are kept while your family is using the service, so you can look back at them.
- If you message the WhatsApp number or the check address without a family plan, we keep the number or address you wrote from, the name WhatsApp shows for you, and the date of your first message, so the free month and the weekly free check can be counted. Nothing else about you is kept, and it goes when you ask.
- Delete any single check and it is removed permanently, not hidden.
- Ask us to delete your account and everything belonging to it goes within 30 days, backups included. Write to hello@silverpost.co.uk and that is all it takes.
- Waiting list details are deleted once the founding places are filled, unless you have become a customer by then.
Deleting your data
One email is all it takes. Write to hello@silverpost.co.uk saying you want your data deleted, and your account and everything belonging to it is gone within 30 days, backups included. You can also delete any single check yourself, permanently, from the family feed.
What we never do
- We do not sell your information, to anyone, for any amount.
- We do not let anything you send be used to train artificial intelligence models, ours or anybody else’s. Our contract with Anthropic forbids it.
- We keep only what the service needs: the check and its verdict for your family's history, and server logs for 30 days. Our AI provider processes your content under contract and does not use it to train AI or sell it.
- We do not show you adverts, and we do not build a profile of you for advertisers.
- We do not read what you send for any purpose other than answering the question that was asked, except where we are required to by law.
- We do not claim to be infallible. Silverpost is a second pair of eyes for the family, not a guarantee, and when it is not sure it says so.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of everything we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete it, all of it, permanently
- hand it over in a portable form, or send it to somebody else
- stop or limit what we do with it
Write to hello@silverpost.co.uk and we will answer within one month. If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first, so that we can put it right.
Cookies and analytics
This website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
We do count visits, using Plausible Analytics, a privacy first alternative to Google Analytics that is hosted in the European Union. It records the page you looked at, whether you tapped the WhatsApp button, the site you arrived from, and your browser, operating system, device type and country. It sets no cookies. Your IP address is used for a moment to work out your country and to avoid counting you twice, then discarded. It is never stored, no profile of you is built, and Plausible cannot follow you from this site to any other one, because there is no identifier to follow.
That is why there is still no cookie banner. The rule that produces those banners is about storing or reading information on your device, and this does neither. If you block it, you simply go uncounted, and nothing on the site behaves any differently.
The Silverpost app itself uses only the storage it needs to keep you signed in and to hold your family’s checks. There are no advertising or analytics trackers in it.
Children
Silverpost is for adults. It is not designed or intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information about children.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will email everyone it affects rather than quietly editing the page. The date at the top always tells you when it last changed.
