Privacy policy
The short version
Silverpost reads the messages and letters that families ask it about, and answers in plain words. To do that it has to hold what you sent and the answer it gave, and it has to send that item to Anthropic, whose Claude model does the reading, under a written contract. That material is never sold, it is never used to train artificial intelligence, and you can have all of it deleted permanently whenever you want.
A fully private mode, in which nothing you send ever leaves Silverpost’s own machines, is on our roadmap. It is not built yet, and we would rather say so here than imply otherwise.
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking of any kind.
Who we are
Silverpost is run by Stephen Pollard, trading as Silverpost. It is a sole trader business rather than a limited company, so there is no company number to give you. For the purposes of UK GDPR, Stephen Pollard is the data controller for everything described on this page.
You can reach a person, and it is the same person, at hello@silverpost.co.uk. A postal address is available on request to that address, and we will send it to you.
What we collect, and why
If you join the waiting list on this website
- Your name and email address. That is the whole record. We use them to invite you to the founding families and for nothing else. We do not add you to any other list, and we do not pass them on. If you join twice, the second one is quietly ignored rather than stored again.
If you use Silverpost
- The messages and letters you send it. Texts, WhatsApp messages, forwarded emails and photographs of post, together with anything written on them. This is the only way the service can answer the question you asked.
- The answers Silverpost gave. So that the family can look back at what was decided and when.
- Your account and family details. Names, email addresses or phone numbers of the people in your family feed, so the right people are told when something dangerous arrives.
- Basic technical records. Server logs needed to keep the service running and secure, kept for 30 days and then deleted. That deletion is enforced by the server itself, not left to somebody remembering to do it.
Where it is processed, and who sees it
The reading itself is done by Anthropic, using their Claude model, on servers in the United States. Anthropic acts as our processor under a written data processing agreement. That contract is what obliges them to handle it only on our instructions, to keep them secure, not to use them to train artificial intelligence models, and not to keep them beyond what is needed to return the answer.
Because that processing happens outside the United Kingdom, the transfer is covered by the safeguards UK data protection law requires for sending personal data abroad.
Nobody else sees what your family sends it. They are not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not passed to anyone outside that arrangement.
We use a small number of ordinary suppliers to run a business. Email sent to us is routed by Cloudflare and delivered to a mailbox hosted by Google. We do not take payment at all today, and when subscriptions launch, payments will be handled by Stripe. None of them is given what your family sends it, only what they need to carry a message or take a payment.
How long we keep it
- Checks and answers are kept while your family is using the service, so you can look back at them.
- Delete any single check and it is removed permanently, not hidden.
- Ask us to delete your account and everything belonging to it goes within 30 days, backups included. Write to hello@silverpost.co.uk and that is all it takes.
- Waiting list details are deleted once the founding places are filled, unless you have become a customer by then.
What we never do
- We do not sell your information, to anyone, for any amount.
- We do not let anything you send be used to train artificial intelligence models, ours or anybody else’s. Our contract with Anthropic forbids it.
- We do not let anyone keep what you send. It belongs to your family, and to nobody else.
- We do not show you adverts, and we do not build a profile of you for advertisers.
- We do not read what you send for any purpose other than answering the question that was asked, except where we are required to by law.
- We do not claim to be infallible. Silverpost is a second pair of eyes for the family, not a guarantee, and when it is not sure it says so.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of everything we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete it, all of it, permanently
- hand it over in a portable form, or send it to somebody else
- stop or limit what we do with it
Write to hello@silverpost.co.uk and we will answer within one month. If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first, so that we can put it right.
Cookies and tracking
This website sets no cookies, loads nothing from anyone else’s servers, and measures nothing about your visit. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.
The Silverpost app itself uses only the storage it needs to keep you signed in and to hold your family’s checks. There are no advertising or analytics trackers in it.
Children
Silverpost is for adults. It is not designed or intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information about children.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will email everyone it affects rather than quietly editing the page. The date at the top always tells you when it last changed.
